James Healey was given a Certificate of Recognition by the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc Monday night for saving a man’s life. The now retired volunteer firefighter was at his day job on November 12th last year when his coworkers called him into action, after Brad Hollingworth, the man and coworker who notified the Municipality of Healey’s actions, went into heart failure. Healey said it was a chaotic series of events.
In his letter to council, Hollingworth, who couldn’t attend the ceremony, said he was without oxygen for six minutes and his doctor said it’s a miracle he suffered no brain damage, and credits the CPR Healey performed before EMS arrived as to what saved his life. Fire Chief Brian George called Healey a very valued member and this is a good reminder of how important it is for people – not just first responders – to learn CPR and First Aid.
