Peterborough is getting ready to lace up in support of local families impacted by dementia.
The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s takes place this Saturday at Trent University’s Justin Chiu Stadium, running from 10am to 1pm. Participants will walk exactly 14,790 steps — a symbolic gesture representing the number of people diagnosed with dementia in this region.
Society executive director Jen Johnstone says this year’s goal of $120,000.
The walk is more than a fundraiser. It’s a source of encouragement for those facing the realities of dementia. Organizers say the event builds a sense of connection and strength in the community.
Johnstone says the walk provides hope and encouragement.
While the Walk for Alzheimer’s is held across the country, Johnstone says every dollar raised in Peterborough stays here to support local programs and services.
The Walk for Alzheimer’s invites everyone to step up, show support, and help fund essential care for neighbours living with dementia.
