Environment and Climate Change Canada is warning of possible isolated thunderstorms across the region starting Wednesday evening and continuing into early Friday.
The storms may bring short bursts of heavy rain, with total rainfall possibly reaching between 50 and 80 millimetres in some areas. Rain is expected to begin tonight and last until midday Thursday, with another round of rain likely Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning.
In some places, thunderstorms could cause up to 15 mm of rain in just one hour. This kind of intense rainfall can lead to flooding, especially in low-lying or urban areas where water doesn’t drain quickly. Roads, floodplains, and ditches may see rising water levels.
People are being asked to stay away from rivers, streams, and flooded areas. Fast-moving water, slippery banks, and cold temperatures can be dangerous. Children and pets should be kept at a safe distance.
Local officials, including municipal staff and road crews, are being advised to keep an eye on conditions. The St Claire Region Conservation Authority is watching the situation closely and will issue updates if flooding becomes a concern.
This weather alert is in effect until noon on Friday, June 6th, unless updated earlier. Stay tuned to Environment Canada for the latest warnings.
