Trent University’s building of the new Otonabee College residence will benefit greatly Peterborough’s efforts to meet its provincially-mandated housing target.
Set open in fall 2028 as part of the transformation of the university’s East Bank Symons Campus, the 700,000 square foot project also includes the building of the Gidigaa Migizi College.
According to Trent finance and administration vice-president Tariq Al-idrissi, the project not only speaks to the university’s commitment to a more connect, inclusive and sustainable campus but, by moving students from city rental units to on-campus accommodations, also positions Trent to help the city meet its target of providing 4,700 new homes by 2031.
Al-idrissi says with more than 12,000 students annually, Trent has had to get creative in terms of providing housing and on-campus amenities, this project being a prime example of that objective.
