On Monday night, around 6:35 p.m., Adelaide Metcalfe Fire responded to a field fire at the intersection of Kerwood Road and Calvert Drive. Approximately 25 acres of wheat stubble and 10 acres of standing wheat were burning. Eighteen firefighters and several water tankers were deployed, and crews used rakes to bring the fire under control quickly.
An investigation determined the fire was accidentally sparked by the hot exhaust of a pickup truck driven through the field by the property owner. No farm equipment was damaged in the incident.
