Peterborough’s Showplace Performance Centre is having much-needed work done, including the replacement of its aged roof and a facelift of its marquee.
According to Showplace executive director Scott Lale, the total bill for the work comes to one million dollars – half of that coming from a federal Cultural Spaces Grant and half provided by the city in the form of an interest-free loan that’s repayable over 10 years.
Lale says the roof work is particularly pressing.
As for the marquee, Lale says time and weather has taken a toll, necessitating the need for an upgrade.
Lale says, in terms of the venue’s operation, this is the perfect time to have the work done.
Owned by Showplace, a non-profit organization, the George Street venue opened in 1996, and has since hosted countless events.
