The Ontario government is investing $1 million to replace the aging arena floor at the Douro-Dummer Community Centre as part of its $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.
The project will modernize the facility by replacing the deteriorating ice surface with a new, energy-efficient system. In-floor heating will be added, allowing for year-round use and significantly reducing operational costs and the centre’s environmental footprint.
The Douro Community Centre, in operation for 45 years, serves as a vital gathering space for local residents, families, and youth. The investment marks the largest provincial commitment to the facility since it was built and is expected to preserve and enhance the space for generations to come.
The CSRIF program supports community infrastructure across Ontario and is part of the province’s broader $200 billion infrastructure plan to strengthen local economies, create jobs, and promote healthier, more connected communities.
