Police are investigating a serious dog attack that left one pet dead and a resident injured on the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation. Last week, officers from the Oneida Nation Police Service, Middlesex County OPP, and Oneida EMS responded to an animal complaint on Bodkin Road. Investigators say a 71-year-old resident was walking their dog when two unrestrained pit bulls attacked.
The individual managed to retreat to their home and call police. Officers later located the pit bulls in the area. During the response, one dog charged at police, leading an officer to discharge their firearm to protect public and officer safety. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while their dog was fatally injured in the attack.
