The sentencing hearing began in London last week for 54-year-old Tracy Ferreira from Strathroy, who pleaded guilty in April to one count of fraud over $5,000.
Ferreira, who managed client accounts at Try Recycling reportedly stole close to $1.4 Million from the company between January of 2021 and October of 2023. It was apparently a customer at the recycling company who passed along their suspicions about her, and police got involved.
The sentencing hearing is adjourned for a month as Ferreira wants a specialized pre-sentence report for Indigenous offenders.
Standard background checks were reportedly made before Ferreira was hired, but previous fraud convictions didn’t appear because she went under a different name.
The case returns to court on Oct. 3 for an update on the report.
