The future of the Downtown Strathroy Market was discussed at this week’s Council meeting as members reviewed the outcomes of the 2025 season, including the absence of produce vendors which seemed to be the biggest concern. Despite some ups and downs, most of council agreed that the market has proven to be a valuable asset for the community, boosting the local economy, attracting visitors, and offering businesses increased exposure. Beyond its economic impact, the market has also become a social gathering place, creating a unique and lively experience in Strathroy-Caradoc.
Although a few options including shutting the daytime market down and continuing with the night markets moving forward were discussed, Council voted to move forward with several changes aimed at strengthening the market’s operations. Municipal staff will establish an advisory committee or board, while continuing to employ a Summer Student as Market Manager under the supervision of the Booking & Events Coordinator.
The market will remain at its current location on Frank Street and Front Street, unless Council directs a move in the future. The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc has overseen the Downtown Strathroy Market for the past four years.
