It’s fire prevention week and it’s also been just over 10 years since the tragic loss of 10-year-old Quinn Derbyshire, who perished in a house fire south of Strathroy in 2015. myFM sat down with Quinn’s mom, Cindy, who thanked the community for the outpouring of support in recent days.
Cindy says she, her husband Steve and sons Clayton and Jack still look for ways to remember Quinn every chance they get.
With the backdrop this week of Fire Prevention Week, Cindy says you have no idea how fast a fire spreads….until you’re in the middle of it.
Quinn’s hand slipped from Cindy’s and she couldn’t find him again. Through tears, she told us she thinks he may have gotten lost trying to save their cat. She says the choking smoke in the house was unbelievable.
Cindy says their oldest son Clayton, who’s now 22, is training to become a member of Kerwood’s volunteer fire department…as he wants to be able to save others from fires.
