Big news coming out of Strathroy-Caradoc Council last week regarding a potential Hull Road residential development, as Council approved a rezoning for that project to move on to the next step. Strathroy-Caradoc Mayor Colin Grantham.
The next stage is the site plan step, but pedestrian safety was a concern by council which prompted the return of a previous discussion with the possibility of changing Hull Road to a one way and pairing that with Pannell Lane changing to a one way in the opposite direction.
Changing to one ways would switch a two lane road into a one lane road creating space to add sidewalks to both streets.
One thing than all residents should be aware of, especially residents who may think the town has full control over what can be developed or not, is the reality that the Municipality has very little control according to Grantham.
The rezoning vote was 8-1 in favour of it with the Mayor being the lone vote against. He says it’s a good development and he’s in favour of it but there’s more to it in his mind hence why he voted against the rezoning.
Mayor Grantham did not shy away from discussing today’s current reality.
He added, what the next steps will be.
Council directed staff to create a report on the feasibility and logistics around switching Hull Road and Pannell Lane to one way streets.
