The Bluewater Recycling Association is reminding residents that once Halloween is over, pumpkins should not be placed in the blue box.
While many people may assume pumpkins can be recycled, they actually belong in the garbage, compost, or with yard waste instead. When tossed in with regular recycling, pumpkins can create a sticky mess that can ruin entire loads of clean material.
The Association encourages everyone to compost their pumpkins whenever possible, as anything that grows from the ground can be returned to the earth. They also remind residents to recycle properly by keeping items clean, dry, and pumpkin-free.
In a Facebook post, the Association wrote, “Let’s keep Halloween spooky and Thanksgiving grateful, not gross.”
