Venfor’s efforts in Brooke-Alvinston continue to stall. The company was slated to present its latest battery-storage proposal to council on Thursday, but the presentation disappeared from the agenda without explanation. Instead, council received a letter from Stephen Sanguliano, director of Venfor Strathroy Corp.
In the letter, Sanguliano noted that although Venfor had secured option agreements with several landowners for possible battery-storage sites, recent economic instability in Ontario had caused the firm’s energy partners to rethink their plans. They have now decided to withdraw from the project entirely, effectively bringing the proposal to an end.
Earlier this year, Sanguliano had promoted a Sun Valley Power initiative to build a 400-megawatt system along Churchill Line, capable of storing electricity for an estimated 360,000 homes. Venfor was also behind a wind-turbine proposal brought before council earlier in the year—an idea council opposed, preventing the company from seeking the provincial approval required to move forward.
