Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Cold Weather Alert for London and Middlesex County.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit is urging residents to take precautions to stay safe during the extreme cold:
Keeping Warm
-
Stay indoors as much as possible. Spend time in heated spaces such as your home, a friend or family member’s residence, or public places like malls and libraries.
-
If you must go outside, dress in warm, layered clothing. Choose loose-fitting layers, and be sure to wear a hat, mittens, and winter boots. Cover all exposed skin—frostbite can occur very quickly in severe cold.
-
Drink warm beverages to maintain body heat, but avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can accelerate heat loss.
-
Limit vigorous outdoor activity to reduce strain on your body in cold temperatures.
-
Keep informed of current weather conditions and avoid travelling when extreme cold or storms are expected.
-
Ensure your home and vehicle are properly equipped for winter weather.
