Strathroy-Caradoc Fire stations one and two responded late Thursday night around 11:30pm to a detached garage fire at 54 Henry Street in Strathroy. On arrival Firefighters encountered a fully involved detached garage fire with heat impinging on the house. Crews made an aggressive exterior fire attack and quickly brought the garage fire under control and limited damage to the house to some melted siding; there was no extension into the home.
Fire Chief Stephen Beazley tells myFM, that there were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel, the homeowners were woken by neighbors who had noticed smoke coming from the garage. The fire remains as undetermined but is not suspicious.
Beazley added, given the current weather conditions and accumulated snow, it important that if you have a fire hydrant on your property that you keep it clear, because a cleared fire hydrant in this incident aided in the fire suppression operations.
