It’s Volunteer Appreciation Week on myFM brought to you by the Municipality of Strathroy Caradoc and today, we focus on TJ Fonville, who wears many volunteer hats, including Director and Founder of the Strathroy Community Kitchen of Hope.
He tells myFM he thinks volunteering is so beneficial “because when we’re stressed or in a tough situation, helping people helps us to overcome that and work our way through that. We feel better about ourselves. Volunteering reduces stress and anxiety and shows us that other people often have it worse than we do.”
Fonville has also coached baseball and hockey, was involved for 20 years in youth ministry at his Church including 17 mission trips, volunteered with the Ark Aid Street Mission in London and has volunteered at 37 Frank Youth Centre.
He’s happy that volunteers are being recognized and hopes this week encourages others to get out and volunteer, reaping the many benefits that come with it.
