This week at Strathroy-Caradoc council, Strathroy Hospice once again one of the big hitters and once again a full gallery to observe and provide feedback. Council heard from concerned residents and representatives of Strathroy Hospice regarding the potential impacts of building a hospice on prime agricultural land.
The proposal involves developing a future Strathroy Hospice at 7013 Walkers Drive. To proceed, the applicant is seeking an Official Plan Amendment and a rezoning of approximately 3.5 hectares of prime agricultural land.
Residents have commented both for and against the proposed Hospice location and several of those concerns, included increased roadway traffic, potential light and noise pollution, and possible impacts on nearby wildlife rehabilitation activities at Salthaven.
Because the property is currently designated as prime agricultural land, the proposal presents a number of policy and planning considerations. Feedback from the public meeting will be formally documented, and Planning staff will review comments from residents, the applicant, municipal departments, and external consultants before bringing the matter back to Council for further review and consideration.
