The OPP are reminding residents that golf carts are intended for use on private property only and are not legally allowed to operate on public roads in Ontario. Police say anyone caught driving a golf cart on a roadway could face several charges under provincial legislation, including operating a motor vehicle without insurance, driving without a valid vehicle permit, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license. Officers are also warning that impaired driving laws apply to golf carts. Anyone found operating a golf cart while under the influence of alcohol or drugs — whether on public or private property could still be charged with impaired driving offenses.
