Hydro One Networks Inc. has submitted two leave-to-construct applications to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) seeking approval for major new transmission infrastructure projects, including the Northeast Power Line and the Longwood to Lakeshore Transmission Line.
The proposed Longwood to Lakeshore project would involve the construction of a new single-circuit 500-kilovolt transmission line stretching from Longwood Transformer Station in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc to Lakeshore Transformer Station in the Municipality of Lakeshore.
Valued at approximately $1.2 billion, the project is expected to deliver roughly 550 megawatts of additional electricity capacity to southwestern Ontario, helping meet growing energy demands while supporting employment, agriculture, and manufacturing throughout the region. Completion of the line is currently targeted for 2030.
Hydro One also noted that nearby First Nations communities will have the opportunity to participate through the company’s First Nation Equity Partnership Model, which offers the chance to acquire up to a 50 per cent ownership stake in the transmission component of each project. Hydro One says it will continue working collaboratively with participating First Nations throughout the planning, development, and construction phases.
