Baseball fans are invited to head to Strathroy this Saturday as Baseball Day returns for a full day of games, activities, and community fun.
Jason Turnbull, president of the Strathroy Minor Baseball, explains the event.
The day will feature games from every Royals team, beginning at 9 a.m. with the youngest players and wrapping up at 8 p.m. with the U13 and U18 teams.
Turnbull says the event was first launched last year.
He says Baseball Day gives every team a chance to be recognized while also allowing families and fans to watch teams they may not normally see play.
Along with the games, there will be plenty of other activities happening throughout the day at York Street.
The event will also include the grand reopening of the batting cages at 12:15 p.m. and Strathroy-Caradoc Mayor Colin Grantham is set to throw the first pitch. The cages were first opened last season thanks to a generous donation from the Looman family and have quickly become an important part of player development.
Turnbull says the batting cages give players a place to build their skills before stepping onto the field and will help support the future of the baseball program for years to come.
He is encouraging everyone in the community to come out and support local athletes.
Turnbull says events like this are important because they give younger players the chance to watch older athletes and dream about reaching that level one day.
The event also gives families who may be thinking about joining baseball a chance to see what the sport and the local program are all about.
