A late-night house fire in Strathroy was quickly brought under control by firefighters Tuesday evening. Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department crews were dispatched to a residence on Abigail Street shortly after 10 p.m. after reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke and flames coming from the rear roof area of the home.
After confirming all occupants had safely evacuated, crews launched an aggressive attack on the fire, preventing it from spreading further. The blaze had extended into the attic space, requiring firefighters to open sections of the roof to fully extinguish the flames.
Damage was limited primarily to two rooms at the back of the home and portions of the roof and attic area. Following extensive overhaul operations and ventilation to remove lingering smoke, the scene was secured and crews cleared the property shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday.
No injuries were reported among residents or responding firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and damage estimates have not yet been determined.
Fire officials are using the incident as a reminder for residents to ensure working smoke alarms are installed and regularly maintained, as they play a critical role in providing early warning and allowing occupants to escape safely during a fire emergency.
