The Middlesex-London Health Unit is urging residents to prepare for several days of dangerous heat after Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a Yellow Heat Warning beginning today and continuing through Thursday evening.
Daytime highs are expected to reach between 30 and 37 degrees, with overnight temperatures remaining between 20 and 24 degrees, offering little relief and increasing the risk of heat-related illness, particularly for older adults, young children and those with underlying health conditions.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water, limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day, wear light clothing and seek shade or air-conditioned spaces whenever possible. The health unit also reminds people never to leave children or pets in parked vehicles, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and check in on family, friends and neighbours who may be more vulnerable during the heat.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issues a Heat Warning when daytime highs of 31 degrees or higher and overnight lows of 20 degrees or higher are expected for at least two consecutive days, or when the humidex reaches 40 or higher for two straight days.
