It surprised some people to see the municipality walk back from 2027 public engagement sessions that were supposed to be held on the 2027 budget starting next week. The Municipality has postponed the sessions, which would have included online and in-person feedback from anyone in the community who wanted to share that.
Councillor Greg Willsie had brought the issue up at council’s most recent meeting.
Councillor Bo Derbyshire also had his concerns.
He also wondered what might be done with the information that would have been gathered.
The municipality says the engagement opportunities for the 2027 Budget will be rescheduled, and updated dates and information will be shared once they are available.
Strathroy-Caradoc CAO Rob Browning did respond to requests for comment from myFM and told us “We reevaluated the summer dates and thought it best not to conduct the meetings while people may be away on vacation. As we get into Sept/Oct, there is a lot of prep work for the election, so we will reschedule for after the election. The intent is to give everyone who wants to attend the meetings, the opportunity.”
