Four people were treated for heat exhaustion following a fire involving machinery at a Strathroy auto parts plant Friday evening. Strathroy-Caradoc firefighters were called to Meridian Lightweight Technologies at 800 Wright St. shortly before 7:30 p.m. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the facility. The fire involved a heavy die-casting machine and magnesium production material, creating special challenges for firefighters because water cannot be used on burning magnesium. The four people treated for heat exhaustion did not suffer fire-related injuries.
