Ontario Provincial Police laid 1,815 charges during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign across West Region. Officers conducted 2,107 traffic stops between July 31 and August 3 while targeting the driving behaviours most often linked to serious and fatal collisions. The campaign focused on speeding, seatbelt use, distracted driving and impaired driving, while officers also enforced Ontario’s Move Over law to protect emergency crews working roadside. Charges included 856 for speeding, 178 for seatbelt violations, 14 for distracted driving, 45 for impaired driving and 11 for failing to move over for emergency vehicles.
