Middlesex Centre Fire Services received just over $79,000 last week, through the Province’s Fire Protection Grant to advance firefighter health and safety initiatives and help reduce occupational health risks associated with emergency response.
The project includes the purchase of a dedicated decontamination trailer and specialized protective equipment designed to help reduce firefighters’ exposure to harmful contaminants and known carcinogens.
The new made-in-Ontario decontamination trailer helps firefighters remove contaminants from protective gear and exposed skin before returning to service or leaving an incident scene.
Funding also supports the purchase of specialized exterior-use gear and additional PPE, helping extend the lifespan of structural firefighting equipment while ensuring firefighters have the appropriate protection for a variety of emergency responses.
