A new downtown memorial crosswalk is moving forward in Strathroy following a decision by Strathroy-Caradoc Council this week.
Council deferred the project during its September 8 meeting, to the Community Development Advisory Committee working towards a potential memorial crosswalk in the downtown area.
The municipality says the crosswalk will use a more durable type of paint, with the cost quoted at approximately $6,500. A local contractor would be responsible for completing the work.
The crosswalk would provide a visible and lasting tribute in the community as residents gather to remember and honour those who served and continue to serve Canada.
The project also prompted discussion about whether similar memorial crosswalks could eventually be considered in other communities within Strathroy-Caradoc.
For now, Council’s decision clears the way for the downtown project to proceed.
