An overwhelming majority of Middlesex Community Living workers have voted in favour of strike action, if they can’t come to an agreement on a new contract with their employer.
MCL is a non-profit organization serving adults with developmental disabilities in Strathroy and area.
OPSEU Local 166 Unit Steward Ryan Clarke tells myFM he’s still hopeful a strike can be averted locally, as Community Living London just went through one that lasted over 3 months.
The strike in London ended with workers getting improvements including a 9 percent pay hike over 3 years.
Clarke isn’t sure what MCL might get.
OPSEU says its developmental services workers are woefully underpaid and they’re seeking fair pay increases but also better funding and access to services.
The union’s demands have included retroactive pay related to the province’s Bill 124, which capped public sector wage increases at one percent and was later ruled unconstitutional.
