A newly established non-profit community theatre group is bringing together performers, audiences and communities across Southwestern Ontario with a mission that goes far beyond the stage. Act. Too operates under the motto “More than theatre. A place to belong,” combining the excitement of live performance with opportunities to build social connections, develop youth skills and support local charitable causes. We talked with Johnna(JOHN-a) V. Allen, Chair/Producer Act.Too Community Theatre Collective.
The organization is preparing for its inaugural production at the Ekfrid Community Centre in Appin, where audiences will be treated to the Off-Broadway comedy hit DisEnchanted.
The all-female cast features a talented group of performers with strong connections to the Strathroy community. Leading the production are current and former Strathroy residents, including Suzi Bilyea as Snow White, Karen Chalmers as Cinderella and Liz Hansen as Sleeping Beauty.
Act. Too is based in Glencoe, but its performers come from communities throughout Southwestern Ontario. The organization says building strong relationships with surrounding communities and local businesses is an important part of its mission, with the goal of creating opportunities to share prosperity and give back locally.
As a non-profit organization, Act. Too plans to donate proceeds from its productions to local causes while continuing to develop opportunities for performers and community members. The organization plans to stage two productions each year and is currently looking to establish partnerships with local businesses and organizations as it grows. More information about Act.
