Ontario’s minimum wage is going up this week, giving more than 700,000 workers across the province a pay increase.
Starting Thursday, October 1, the general minimum wage will rise by 35 cents, from $17.60 to $17.95 an hour.
The annual adjustment is tied to inflation, with the province setting this year’s increase based on a 1.9 per cent change in Ontario’s Consumer Price Index.
For someone earning minimum wage and working 40 hours a week, the increase works out to an additional $14 per week, or approximately $728 annually before taxes.
Ontario has separate minimum-wage categories for some workers, including students under 18 who meet certain conditions, homeworkers and hunting and fishing guides.
