A new development concept for 301 Second Street in Strathroy was presented to Strathroy-Caradoc Council Monday night.
Council received a staff report regarding the Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment applications for the property.
The report outlined a new proposed plan that could include a mix of long-term care, a hotel, restaurants, commercial offices and purpose-built rental housing.
The proposal represents a change from the development application originally submitted for the property in 2025.
That original application called for a major mixed-use development featuring 836 residential units, including three 11-storey apartment buildings, 49 live/work townhouses and more than 200,000 square feet of commercial space.
Monday’s report instead presented a revised concept featuring a broader mix of uses, including long-term care and rental housing.
Council’s consideration Monday was informational. No decision was made on either the Official Plan Amendment or Zoning By-law Amendment, and the applications remain under review.
Further planning work and review will be required before the proposal returns to Council for a decision.
