The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region is stepping up enforcement against unsafe commercial vehicles as part of a three-week road safety campaign.
Project Safe Haul runs from October 13 through November 1, 2026, with OPP detachments across West Region conducting coordinated commercial motor vehicle inspections at various locations.
Officers and commercial vehicle inspectors will be looking for vehicles that fail to meet provincial and federal safety requirements. Inspections will focus on compliance with transportation laws and identifying vehicles that may need to be taken off the road.
Police say mechanical problems involving brakes, tires and steering systems can create serious hazards for motorists. Improperly secured cargo and violations involving driver compliance can also contribute to collisions.
Along with enforcement, officers will be working to educate drivers and commercial carriers about their safety responsibilities.
The OPP says the initiative is designed to prevent collisions before they happen and improve safety for everyone sharing Ontario’s roads.
