If you want Strathroy-Caradoc to follow in the footsteps of neighboring Lucan and potentially other Canadian towns that have hosted an NHL game and received a quarter of a million dollars for arena upgrades then write up a submission, gather some pictures and nominate Strathroy-Caradoc for the 2019 Kraft Hockeyville winning community. Kraft Hockeyville is an annual competition sponsored by Kraft Foods, the National Hockey League and the NHL Players’ Association in which communities compete to demonstrate their commitment to ice hockey. Runners-up also get smaller cash prizes to upgrade their ice rinks. Kraft Hockeyville games are televised nationally and in 2015 Sportsnet took over from CBC which began broadcasting the game in 2006.
Communities are invited to submit their nominations and the application form requires a short essay, and photographs or a video, depicting the community’s hometown pride and passion for the game of hockey. A judging panel then selects four finalists. The winner is then determined by a public vote. Deadline for nominations is February 10th.
