Strathroy-Caradoc Police are saying be careful because Kijiji sales can go wrong. On January 5th a citizen who had an item for sale on Kijiji arranged to meet a potential buyer. The pair met in a dark parking lot in Strathroy. When the property for sale was shown to the potential buyer, he fled with the property with no intention to return. The Strathroy-Caradoc Police were notified of the theft and responding officers found the male suspect a distance away, he was arrested and the investigation eventually turned up the stolen item so that it could be returned to it’s owner. This incident has caused Police to remind you that Kijiji can be a terrific way to buy and sell property, however, it comes with risks. If you use Kijiji or any other type on online classified site, please consider the following few safety tips. Consider meeting potential buyers/sellers in a public place, in busy public lots during daylight hours and bring someone with you. Do not post pics with anything that could identify who you are or where you live. Do not bring large amounts of money with you. If you are buying a used vehicle here in Ontario, request the seller provide you with a “used vehicle information package” from Service Ontario. If you must attend the sellers house, tell a friend or family member where you will be, and if it seems to good to be true, it most likely is.
