A weird occurrence in Strathroy Tuesday afternoon. The Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department engaged in multiple small fires in the Maple Street and Helen Drive area. Town CAO Greg McClinchey says there was no serious property damage and there were no reported injuries. The unconfirmed cause of the fires was a power surge, which was transmitted through the phone lines. Because of the surge, landlines were down in the area and people were encouraged to check in on friends or family in the area who do not have cell phones, as they would not have immediate access to dial 9-1-1. The Fire Department also conducted door to door checks to ensure there was no threat of a fire. myFM will continue to follow this story.
